A map of named places
Campuses are split into zones students already know, like halls, libraries and faculties.
NeTrakr
AKWA IBOM TECH WEEK · STARTUP PITCH
NeTrakr is a crowdsourced map of mobile network quality for Nigerian students. Run a quick speed test and see how MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile really perform, place by place, on and around your campus.
Over 100 students across 5+ campuses have already joined our waitlist, with no marketing budget.
✓ Built by 200 level students, for Nigerian students.

TRACTION AND EVIDENCE
Every figure below comes from our own records. We can show the signup table and the test results live.
Our minimum count, taken straight from the signup records.
Students from 5+ universities have joined, and the form records each one’s institution.
Every signup so far came without paid promotion.
They check how a measurement is matched to a campus zone, the logic behind the map.
The backend is built and the mobile app is in beta.
PROBLEM AND MARKET
Students pick a network by guesswork and pay for it in dropped calls, failed uploads and wasted data.
In most African markets Opensignal measured, fewer than 3 in 10 mobile connection tests were consistently good enough for everyday apps.
Opensignal, State of Mobile Network Experience in Africa, 2024
4G covered 71% of people in the African region in 2024, leaving about 29% without it.
ITU, 2024 data
Over 2.1 million students across 270 Nigerian universities. This is where we start.
NUC figures reported by BusinessDay, Q1 2025. Universities only.
PRODUCT
The interactive map at the top of this page is the app’s main screen. Tap a zone, switch networks, and read the result.
The app measures download, upload and ping, and takes several location readings.
The result counts only when the readings agree on one named campus zone.
Every zone shows all four networks side by side, coloured by quality.
Ranked by download speed. Numbers and logo marks are examples for illustration.
Campuses are split into zones students already know, like halls, libraries and faculties.
MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile for every place, always in the same order.
Each result says how many tests stand behind it, and places with too few tests are marked as not enough data.
Exact coordinates stay internal. Users only ever see place names.
BUSINESS MODEL
Free for students, and valuable to the people who run networks. Each step pays for the next one, in order.
Ads in the free app pay for the servers and basic functions that keep NeTrakr running.
Users who pay enjoy the app more freely, with fewer limits.
Heavy users pay, or watch an ad, for more usage.
A premium feature that finds the best network for a person’s own use case.
Brands and partners reach students through the app.
Our biggest long-term revenue line, selling zone-level network data.
Timing is our plan and will adjust to what we learn.
Ziff Davis’s Connectivity division, home of Ookla, earned $230.7M in 2025, up 8%. Network performance services drove the growth, up $14.9M.

Why ours will be more attractive:
Global tools report countries and cities. We report named places like a library or a hostel.
Tests come from real phones inside buildings, not only from towers and drive tests.
Operators can see where students are underserved, and win them by fixing it.
TEAM
We built the backend, the database design and the mobile app ourselves.
Founder, CEO and CTO

VISION AND ASK
Nigerian campuses. Be the app students check before choosing a network.
Move into cities and launch “find good internet near me”.
Expand across African markets and become the trusted source of network quality for operators and regulators.
Why we haven’t launched yet: the app is in beta because running it for hundreds of users costs money we don’t have yet.
Publish on Google Play and the App Store. Cost: over NGN 200,000.
Pay for hosting so the app can open to hundreds of users.
Raise our marketing budget to reach many more campuses.
Bring in people to run operations, and serve students beyond Nigeria.
PITCH AND Q&A
Every result shows a confidence label based on its number of tests, and places with too few tests are marked as not enough data. Tests also carry GPS accuracy, and low-accuracy ones don’t count toward a place.
A test only counts toward a zone when several location readings agree on it. Rate limiting and duplicate checks are planned before public launch.
Exact coordinates stay internal. Users only ever see place names, and the consent text will state that precise location is collected.
No. Operators pay for insight and clearly labelled sponsorship. Quality rankings stay independent, because the map is only useful if people trust it.
Students are dense, mobile-first, and hit network problems every day, so demand and data build fastest there.
This year’s theme is Scaling the Frontier: From Homegrown Innovation to Global Markets. NeTrakr is homegrown: built by Nigerian students, starting on Nigerian campuses, and scaling to every market that needs to know its network works.
This is entrepreneurship. This is innovation. This is NeTrakr.
